- HIV testing and counseling services have changed over the years to meet the changing
challenges of the epidemic, as well as create more effective interventions that
are more "client-centered".
- The focus has changed from quantity of people tested, to the quality of
the counseling, testing and education each client receives.
- ARCOT remains a leader in adapting to the most proven and effective prevention interventions:
- Prevention Counseling and Partner Elicition: Consists of a pre-counseling session
and an HIV test using OraSure, a mouth swab which involves no blood-draws or needle-sticks.
Results are available in approximately a week with the original counselor providing post-test
counseling.
- Prevention Case Management: An intervention program with trained counselors providing
on-going, multi-session individual counseling sessions to assist the client in reducing
risk behaviors.
- Turning Point Intervention: A 6-session intervention developed for drug/alcohol
abusers and dependents.
- Outreach and Client Recruitment: A National Institute of Drug Abuse model that sends
our prevention specialists into the field to identify high-risk neighborhood areas, for client
recruitment into our programs. Outreach also includes professional presentations to organizations,
churches, jails, and other groups who may benefit with knowledge of our prevention activities.
